This book, celebrating the achievement of the greatest Irish labour leader of the twentieth century, is in three parts. Part 1 reproduces the texts of fifteen Thomas Davis lectures broadcst by RTE radio in 1997, the fiftieth anniversary of James Larkin's death. It contains contributions from distinguished historians like Kenneth Brown, Fergus D'Arcy, Dermot Keogh, Emmet Larkin and Cormac O Grada.
Part 2 looks at Larkin's life and turbulent times. In addition to contirbutions by Donal Nervin and others, there are pieces by Larkin's contemporaries - among them James Stephens, James Conolly and Sean O'Casey.
Part 3 is a Larkin compendium. It consists of memoirs andf assessments; speeches and statements by Larkin; poems writeen about him by Austin Clarke, Patrick Kavanagh and Brendan Behan, among others; and obituaries and tributes.
